Box Score

March 6, 2006

Statesboro, Ga. - Three freshmen for the Georgia Southern women's tennis program shined as the Eagles defeated a shorthanded Western Carolina squad, 7-0, in their first Southern Conference match of the season. For GSU (3-6, 1-0 SoCon), it was the third overall win and the second in as many days while Western remained winless on the season in seven attempts, 0-2 in SoCon play.

The Eagles were victorious in each match in both singles and doubles play. Western Carolina was again forced to default one doubles match and two singles matches due to number of players giving GSU victories at No. 3 doubles and the fifth and sixth singles slots.

In doubles play, the Catamount duo of sophomre Trish Hanson and freshman Mariona Trilla Jane battled GSU's Kimberly Wollett and Heather Reynolds tough before falling 8-5 at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Susanna Sjokvist and freshman Holly Stocks fell 8-1 to the Eagle tandem of Molly Maddox and Shea Huxtable, giving Georgia Southern the doubles point.

Singles play saw the Eagles roll in straight sets, with the closest match being between Lauren Wolken and Trilla Jane, finishing 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.

The Catamounts return to action on Monday and Tuesday in Hilton Head, S.C., facing Northern Kentucky and Evansville before venturing to Savannah, Ga., to face Savannah State on Wednesday (March 8).
