Box Score

ELON, N.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer (8-9-1, 3-7 Southern Conference) lost to Elon (7-7-4, 5-3-3 SoCon) in double overtime 2-1 Sunday at Rudd Field.

Elon's Simi Dhaliwal scored the golden goal for the Phoenix late in the second overtime. Dhaliwal headed a ball into the goal from an assist by Olivia Mackey at the 109:49 mark.

Western Carolina played from behind for most of the match after Elon scored off a penalty kick eight minutes into the first period. Jaclyn Wood took the penalty kick and sent it past the Catamount goalie Katie Jacobs to give the Phoenix the early 1-0 lead.

The Catamounts scoring drought ended in the second period. After almost 520 minutes without scoring a goal, over the course of five plus matches, Western Carolina got on the scoreboard thanks to redshirt junior Samantha Hodge. At the 70:24 mark, Hodge knotted the game, heading the ball into the goal after a shot off the cross bar. It was Hodge's fifth goal of the season, which leads the Catamounts.

Western Carolina closes out the regular season at 7 p.m. Wednesday hosting Appalachian State in its final home match of the year.
