Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina cheerleading finished fourth in the nation over the weekend at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals held at the Bandshell and Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Catamounts competed in the Intermediate All-Girl Division I against 13 other teams across the country. WCU performed in the Ocean Center Arena on both Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8 and included a choreographed timed team routine. WCU's squad hit zero on both days, which means there were no deductions during their routine. Deductions typically include stunt falls, athlete falls, and safety deductions.
"Hitting zero is a goal this team had all season – and they achieved that goal. We are so proud of them and can't wait to celebrate them as this season comes to an end," said WCU's Cheer coaching staff.
This year marked WCU's return to the national competition after two years of not competing due to the COVID pandemic.
Tryouts for the Catamount Cheerleading's 2022-23 team are scheduled for April 29-30 in the Cordelia Camp Lab Gymnasium. Registration is currently open and
