Western Carolina Advances to Fifth in Second Round in Japan

The final round scheduled for Friday, Thursday night stateside

Kitahiroshima, Japan – Western Carolina carded the lowest team score of the second round at 6-over par 294 to climb three spots into fifth place with 18 holes to go at the season-opening Pan Pacific Collegiate Golf Super League being played at the Sapporo Regent Golf Club.
 
Two Catamounts are among the individual top 10 through 36 holes as juniors Kaitlyn Wingnean and Elizabeth Lohbauer have matching scores of 5-over par 149 entering the final 18 holes. Wingnean followed up her 4-over par round of 76 from the first day with a 1-over score in round two. Lohbauer posted WCU's lone even-par round, countering the 5-over 77 with a 72 in the second round as the duo is amidst a three-way tie for 10th place.
 
Sophomore Brie Mapanao was four strokes better in the second round, improving from a 77 with a 1-over 73 to move into a three-way tie for 13th with 18 holes remaining.
 
Rounding out WCU's scoring five is fifth-year senior Victoria Ladd in a four-way tie for 24th at 153 (77-76) and redshirt junior Kayleigh Baker who slipped into a tie for 35th after ranking among the team leaders with a first-round 76. Baker has a two-day score of 158.
 
With a two-round score of 3-under par 141, Mami Naito of Tokai University Kyushu leads the 65-golfer field by one stroke over second-place Suzu Shimada of Tohoku Fukushi University.
 
The final round is underway as of Thursday night stateside, Friday morning in Japan as the course sits 13 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone. CatamountSports.com will be updated as soon as possible when the results from the international tournament are passed along.
