Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina Cheerleading squad will hold its open tryouts for its 2019-20 squad on-campus at the Camp Lab Gym April 26-28, 2019.

WCU cheerleading is a small, coed squad that performs at home Catamount football, men's and women's basketball games, as well as at other various events such as parades and pep rallies intended to raise school spirit and helping create a home advantage for the Catamounts. The team performs both all-girl and some co-ed stunts

Leading up to the annual tryout weekend, the cheerleaders will hold two open gym sessions at the on-campus Camp Lab Gym on both Friday, April 12 and Monday, April 15 from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. These two sessions are not required for consideration for the 2019-20 team.

Registration for the 2019-2020 squad tryouts opens on Friday, April 26 at 6:00 pm to be followed by a brief meeting before the tryout clinic begins. All applicants must bring all the completed forms including proof of insurance, proof of a having a medical physical within the past 12 months, and a $50 tryout fee. (A complete checklist is provided in the tryout packet).

Some of the requirements that will be tested during the tryout include standing tumbling elements including a back handspring, running tumbling elements such as round-off back handspring series or tucks, a timed mile run, as well as a “Cats Cheer” quiz through the weekend tryout.
