Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's Catamount cheerleading squad will hold a fall tryout for the 2019-20 squad on-campus on Sunday, Sept. 1 in the Camp Lab Gym. The tryout is open to both men and women currently enrolled at Western Carolina University for the fall semester.
WCU Cheerleading is a small, coed squad that performs at home and select road Catamount football, men's and women's basketball home games, as well as other various events such as parades and pep rallies intended to raise school spirit and help create a home advantage for WCU's athletic teams. The team performs both all-girl and some co-ed stunts.
Registration will be from 8:30 - 9:00 am on Sunday, Sept. 1 followed by a brief meeting before the tryout clinic begins -- to avoid the registration rush, participants are encouraged to print out the completed tryout forms and bring to the registration completed in advance. Additionally, a tryout fee of $25 and a medical physical performed within the past 12 months is required. A complete checklist is available in the tryout information packet.
Some of the requirements that will be tested during the cheerleading tryout include standing tumbling elements including a back handspring, running tumbling elements such as a round-off back handspring series or tucks, a timed mile run, as well as a short interview component.
