SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer player Emily Zipay has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition between Oct. 16-22.
Zipay was involved in three of the Catamounts' five goals in their two matches last week. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native provided the assist on Emily Threatt's game-winning goal on Oct. 18 as they defeated The Citadel 1-0. Zipay also played a part in two of the Catamounts' four goals in the 4-1 win over Mercer on Oct. 20. She assisted the opening goal and bagged one of her own in the fifth minute.
Zipay is a biology major with a pre-health professional concentration and a minor in psychology. The senior currently holds a 4.0-grade point average.
This is the second time this season a Catamount women's soccer playing has earned this award. Junior Regan Ward was honored on Sept. 18.
Western Carolina will hit the road next to face UNC Greensboro on Oct. 25, with opening kick set for 7 p.m.
