Wise and Galbraith Named to SoCon All-Tournament Team

Pair was part of WCU defense that allowed one goal in tourney play

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer sophomore Katelyn Galbraith and freshman Abbie Wise were named to the 2021 Southern Conference All-Tournament Team as announced today after the championship finals.

Wise played started 22 matches and played in all 23 in her rookie campaign while Galbraith also saw action in 23 games and started 21.

Galbraith, from Peachtree City, Ga., and Wise, who hails from Greensboro, N.C., are both defenders for the Catamount squad that won 11 games this season. The 11 victories are the most since 2019 and ties the record for the most victories under Head Coach Chad Miller.

The duo was part of a back line that recorded nine shutouts on the year which ties for third in the Catamount record books.

WCU's final shutout of the season was a 1-0 blanking of No. 6 seed UNCG, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Championships earning the Catamounts a spot in the semi-finals. WCU held Furman to one goal, in the 1-0 loss in the semi-finals, against a Paladin team that had scored 15 goals in the previous five matches.

During the season, Wise and Galbraith were part of a Catamount defense that recorded shutouts over four of the nine SoCon teams they faced.

Western Carolina places multiple players on the conference all-tournament team for the first time since 2017 when the Catamounts had four players after falling in the finals.

This is the fifth and sixth Catamounts to earn conference postseason honors this season. Valentine Pursey and Natalie McNally were named to the SoCon All-Conference First Team while Niya Marcil and Kirsten Hahn were all-freshman selections.
