Women’s Soccer Receives United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fresh off its season-opening victory over mountain rival UNC Asheville on Thursday night, Western Carolina women's soccer scored another win on Friday. The Catamounts were a recipient of the 2022-23 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award as the organization announced its annual academic award winners this week. The Catamounts were one of 502 women's soccer programs consisting of NCAA and NAIA levels to be honored.
 
WCU sported a team GPA of 3.77 as it claimed the honor for the 18th-straight year. The WCU team GPA ranks as the sixth-highest among NCAA Division I schools and is the highest team GPA in the Southern Conference, as well as in the state of North Carolina.
 
A total of 821 soccer teams (319 men, 502 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 academic year.
 
WCU opens the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, welcoming Queens to the on-campus Catamount Athletic Complex at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) and live stats also available online through CatamountSports.com.
