Cullowhee, N.C. -- Naya Marcil is the latest Catamount to join an ever-growing club as the senior striker was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week after posting two game-winning goals last week for the Catamounts. The honor is the fifth in Marcil's career, giving her the most Player of the Week awards by a Catamount in the women's soccer team's history, breaking her tie at four with legendary Catamount goalkeeper Caitlin Williams. She is only the sixth player in SoCon history to record five or more player of the week honors, and is the first since Mercer's Jada Morrman earned her fifth last year.
Marcil was joined by Mercer's Lindsay Bell, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week. She is the fifth Catamount to earn a Player of the Week nod this season, joining Kirsten Hahn (Week 1 OPOTW), Milla Syska (Week 3 and Week 5 OPOTW), Becca Campbell (Week 4 DPOTW), and Leanne Trudel (Week 6 DPOTW) in the honor.
The Purple and Gold have collected six player of the week honors this season, tying the 2023 team for the most in a single season with three more weeks to go. The Catamounts are now up to 31 Player of The Week honors all-time, the fourth most in the conference.
The Canadian product posted both of her game-winning goals under the ten-minute mark last week, scoring in the 9' minute against both VMI and The Citadel. She then chipped in her 20th career assist against the Keydets, facilitating Isabella DeMarco's goal to put the Purple and Gold up 4-0 on the road.
Marcil's 16 points on the season (6 goals, 4 assists) are the fourth most in the conference this season and second-most on the team, behind only Milla Syska's 19 points. She is tied for the second-most points in conference play, scoring three goals and an assist for seven points against SoCon foes.
The Catamounts will be back on the road Sunday afternoon to face the Wofford Terriers in Spartanburg, S.C. Kick in Sparkle City is set for 2:00 p.m. as the Purple and Gold hunt for their fifth conference win of the season.
