Women’s Golf Enters Sunday’s Final Round at Reynolds Lake

Catamounts slipped into a tie for 11th, tied with ETSU at 609

Eatonton, Ga. – Western Carolina women's golf slipped into a tie for 11th place on Saturday as play resumed with the completion of the second round, which began on Friday, leaving 18 holes remaining at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational at the par-72, 6,107-yard Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
 
The Catamounts are tied with fellow Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State with matching 36-hole scores of 609, just three strokes outside of the Top 10 and Western Kentucky (606).
 
Play is scheduled to conclude on Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Paired with golfers from ETSU and WKU in threesomes, the Catamount scoring five will hit the course on the back nine between holes No. 11 and 14.

Sophomore Elsa Maren Steinarsdôttir climbed 24 spots in the second round, following her opening-round 5-over par 77 with an even-par 72. Her two-round score of 149 leads the Catamounts.
 
After countering seven bogeys with a pair of birdies over the opening 18 holes, Steinarsdôttir had a much quieter second round. She posted two bogeys over her first six holes before carding consecutive birdies on holes No. 17 and 18 – holes she bogeyed in the first round – to move back to even par. The Akranes, Iceland, native closed with five consecutive pars.
 
Senior Sadler Miller slipped into a tie for 36th overall with a two-round score of 151, following her even-par 72 with a 79 in the second round. Graduate transfer EC Niebauer shot 80 for a total of 154 through 36 holes, dropping into a tie for 51st. Miller and Niebauer both posted a pair of birdies in the second round.
 
Rounding out the Catamount scoring, five are sophomores: Annalee Caveney, in a tie for 57th at 155, and Emily Rosenschein, 78th overall with a two-round score of 167. Caveney has three birdies through 36 holes.
 
With two golfers inside the individual top five, fellow Southern Conference foe UNCG (574) leads the 15-team field by five strokes over second-place Virginia Tech (579) entering Sunday's final round. Tournament host and SoCon foe Mercer (580) is third, just six strokes off the pace, followed by Boston College (591) and Central Arkansas (592), rounding out the top five teams.
 
South Dakota State's McKenzie Mages leads the field by four strokes over a two-way tie between Chanelle Mwangi of UNCG and Mercer's Katie Scheck. Mages has a two-day total of 136, with Mwangi and Scheck tied at 140.
