Cindi Saltz Simmons - Women's Basketball - (1979-82)
From nearby Hayesville, N.C., she led the Western Carolina team in scoring three times during her four years and was the key player on three winning season teams. She scored nearly 500 points as a sophomore in 1980, averaging 17.7 points per game. Following her graduation, she went on to become one of the most successful high school volleyball and basketball coaches in the state of North Carolina, winning over 900 games collectively. Her volleyball team won three-consecutive state championships from 1991-93 and her girls' basketball teams won 11 conference championships as the 1993-94 squad advanced to the state championship game before capturing the NCHSAA state title in 2007. In her career, she has received a multitude of state and conference coaching honors. Her and her son, Jackson, were inducted into the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
