Manteo Mitchell (Track & Field, 2005-09)
A 32-time All-Southern Conference selection between indoor and outdoor track where he was part of five SoCon Championship teams. Mitchell was a four-time SoCon Most Valuable Performer and advanced to seven NCAA championship meets where he was All-Region seven times. He earned SoCon Track Athlete of the Week seven times and was thrice dubbed SoCon Track Athlete of the Month. A gold medalist in the IAAF World Indoor Championships, became WCU’s first United States Olympian. He helped the 4x400-meter relay team win the silver medal at the London Olympic games, courageously completing his leg with a broken fibula in a first-place tying heat. Mitchell also won a gold medal in the IBSF World Push Championships in the global bobsled push-start competition. He was listed on the SoCon’s 100th Anniversary team in 2021.
