Keith Elliott - Football - (1965-68)
Holds the distinction as the first African-American student-athlete to receive a football scholarship in the state of North Carolina and at Western Carolina University. His efforts helped break down racial barriers. A Brevard, N.C., native, Elliott was a three-year starter as a lineman on both offense and defense. In 1966, was selected All-Carolinas Conference while also receiving All-NAIA District 26 and NAIA All-Area plaudits. Played in the 1968 North Carolina Collegiate Shrine Bowl. Elliott went on to become the first African-American to earn his MBA from WCU.
