Ronnie Carr - Men's Basketball - (1980-83)
Carr was an All-Star basketball player in the early 1980's who had his career cut short by a tragic automobile accident prior to his senior season. He made the first 3-point field goal in college basketball history (November 29, 1980) and that feat is recognized in the National Basketball Hall of Fame. A spot on the current Ramsey Center floor was commemorated on Nov. 22, 2005. Two-time All-Southern Conference and an All-Freshman team selection who averaged 18 points per game as a three-year starter. Led the conference in scoring in 1982 and scored 20 or more points in almost half of his games. He was a key figure on three consecutive winning teams (1980-82) and was drafted by the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. He received the United States Basketball Writer's Association 1983 Most Courageous Athletic Award.
