Western Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame
Through his efforts and sacrifices, helped break down racial barriers, opening the door for future generations of minorities. Joined the Western Carolina football team in 1965 as a walk-on, earning his way into the starting line-up on defense, receiving defensive player of the week honors in just his second game. At tight end, he finished with 206 receiving yards on 14 catches with two touchdowns in his career. He earned all-conference, all-area, and NAIA All-District 26 accolades in 1965 and NAIA All-District 6 honors in 1968. Was the first minority to start a football game both at Western Carolina and in the Carolinas Conference. Also holds the distinction of being the first minority to graduate from Western Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry … Inducted in 2020.
