Sylvester “Skip” Nelloms (Baseball, 1985-88)
Three-time, first-team All-Southern Conference selection, earning plaudits as a designated hitter (1985) and as an outfielder (1987 & 1988). Was a part of four-consecutive SoCon Championship squads and twice led the conference in RBIs with 70 in 1987 and 69 in 1988. Played in 214 career games with a .346 average, collecting 264 hits including 46 doubles, nine triples, and 47 home runs. He hit 22 homers in 1988 including a school single-game record four against UNC Asheville. WCU Male Athlete of the Year in 1988, 1986 member of Kappa Alpha Psi. Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 22nd round in 1988, spent three years in the MLB farm system. Selected to the SoCon 100th Anniversary team in 2021. … Inducted in 2022
