Lonnie Ray “Slim” Davis Jr. (Athletic Training, 1980-84)
A 1984 graduate of Western Carolina, Davis spent four years as a student athletic trainer, and had an illustrious career in sports medicine as an athletic trainer. His professional achievement includes a 2022 induction into the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association (MAATA) Hall of Fame and a 2015 induction into the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association (NCATA) Hall of Fame. Served as the MAATA treasurer, the Evaluator of the Student Research Committee, and the MAATA District 3 Director. Has collegiate experience at Charlotte and Washington & Lee, as well as an educator and athletic trainer at the middle and secondary school levels, receiving 25-year service awards through both the NCATA and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). He also served on the Advisory Board for WCU’s College of Health and Human Sciences representing athletic training.
